The following films do not have release dates yet.
Everything
about this is hush-hush except for the basics. Woody Allen, you better
not disappoint! It would be hard not to with Cate Blanchett, Louis CK,
Alec Baldwin, Michale Emerson, Sally Hawkins, and Peter Sarsgaard.
Written and directed by indie-driven Joe Swanberg, Jake Johnson and Olivia Wile star as Luke and Kate, who work at a Chicago brewery and drink and flirt together, though they are both in committed relationships. Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston co-star as the significant others Jill and Chris.
Though this is comprised primarily of fresh meat, Get a Job looks promising, as does anything with Anna Kendrick. Am I right? Directed by Dylan Kidd (Laura Linney's P.S.) and written by newbies Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel, Get a Job revolves around a guy and his group of friends who've all just graduated and are trying to find jobs. Anna Kendrick, Allison Brie, Ryan Cranston, Miles Teller, Jay Pharoah, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Greg Germann, Marcia Gay Harden, Jorge Garcia, Jeryl Prescott, and John C. McGinley star.
Morena
Bacarin, Emma Caulfield, Michael Rosenbaum, and Nick Swardson star in
the indie comedy about Rosenbaum's unhappy character returning to
Indiana for his high school reunion. And they really did film it in
Evansville, Indiana. Kudos to them! Rosenbaum wrote and directed the film.
Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley, two actors with incredible nerd cred, play two teens who are on a mission to defeat the Anti-Christ during the Rapture. Writer Chris Matheson has written Wayne's World, so you know a little about what to expect. Our favorite cult comedians and SNL alum co-star: Ken Jeong, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Thomas Lennon, Ana Gasteyer, Paul Scheer, and Ron Huebel.
OMG you guys! The Jack Plotnick-directed comedy flick is written primarily comedy actors--Plotnick, Jennifer Elise Cox, Sam Pancake, Kali Rocha, and Michael Stoyanov. It stars Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Marisa Caughlan, Jerry O'Connell, Kali Rocha, Michael Stoyanov, Sam Pancake, Robert Hoffman, and Katherine Ann McGregor as a group of folks in an alternate future where the 1970s return. This wouldn't be Jennifer Elise Cox's first foray into the 70s with The Brady Bunch Movie and sequel, which I adore.
The
dramatic comedy centers around two best friends, played by Zach
Galifianakis and Owen Wilson, who travel back to their hometown when one
inherits his deceased father's money. It seems his father was Amish,
judging form filming rumors. Amy Poehler, Melissa Rauch, and Laura
Ramsey co-star.
Billy Burke, Parker Posey, Danny Glover, Deborah Ann Woll, Michelle Forbes, Bob Gunton, Bo Derek, and John Carroll Lynch star in this dark comedy about teachers who've heard about budget cuts and fear their jobs are cut. There's nothing like an accurate teacher comedy on how rumors run rampant in schools. Director Andrew Meieran co-wrote the film with Cristopher Keyser
This
might actually be a short. I've no idea. I'll ask Emma Caulfield!
It's written and directed by Amanda Goodwin and stars Emma Caulfield,
Lacey Chabert, Julie Warner, Taylor Dayne, Nick Stabille, and Steven
Brand. The synopsis tells that the film "chronicles a Manhattan dinner
party that starts out good-natured, and
turns unexpectedly dark as alcohol-fueled party guests eschew their
mantles of reserve, turning quick-witting sparing into full-fledged
skewering." Could get fun and dark!
Graham Cantwell wrote and directed The Callback Queen, an indie Irish movie about a struggling actress trying to gain headway while maintaining integrity in the cut-throat film industry.
Late 2013, more likely 2014
The
following movies are scheduled for 2013, but it looks more like they'll
be released in 2014. If they're indies, they'll probably debut at the
2014 Sundance.
Adam Brody stars as a writer set out to make amends with his past loves he's wronged before he enters into marriage the next day. Kristen Bell, Jennifer Morrison, Emily Watson, Zoe Kazan, and Mia Maestro star as his exes. Daisy von Scherler Mayer directs, and Neil LaBute writes. A clip has already appeared, despite the movie not having a date.
David Jackson Willis writes and directs Renaissance Girl, a movie about an intelligent, successful computer programmer (Jennifer Tilly), who takes a job as an ale wench as the local Ren Faire. I'm a little worried that it may be misogynist or sexist, but I have hopes only because I'm a Ren Faire nerd.
The
story, adapted from Margaret Atwood's novel, tells of the first woman
convicted of murder in Canada. Atwood gave life to the mystery and
provided even more mystery but with satisfying depth to the psychology
of Grace Marks. Sarah Polley directs!
This
is a collection of shorts written by Tim Winton, based off the short
stories written by Tim Winton! Rose Byrne, Hugo Weaving, Mirando Otto,
and other Australian actors star. Cate Blanchett makes her directorial
debut with one of the shorts! SWOON!
Cate Blanchett and Mia Masikowska star as two women from different backgrounds who fall in love, based on the book The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith. Phyllis Nagy adapted the screenplay and John Crowley directs.
Based on Paul Billing's screenplay and adapted to the screen by Billings, The Poisoners
is a dark comedy telling the story of a group of women in a farming
community, left behind by the men during WWI. It stars Anna Friel,
Emily Watson, and Lena Headey. John Amiel directs (The Tudors, The Borgias). This smells like Oscar bait.
Well,
you can't possibly go wrong with Cate Blanchett (except for, you know,
the most recent Indiana Jones), but Terrence Malick (Thin Red Line, Tree of Life)
returns with a slew of wonderful actors in addition to Cate Blanchett.
This may not even be released this year, as Malick is working on
another movie.
